WHAT IT IS
The Healing Art of Decompression
Cupping is an ancient form of alternative medicine practiced across numerous cultures, with its most developed tradition in Traditional Chinese Medicine. It involves placing specialized cups, made of glass, silicone, or plastic, on the skin to create a vacuum that gently lifts the skin, fascia, and underlying muscle tissue upward into the cup.
Unlike most massage techniques that work by applying pressure downward into the tissue, cupping works in the opposite direction. It uses decompression to separate layers of tissue, improve space, and encourage new circulation into restricted areas.

HOW IT WORKS
Decompression as a Healing Force
By gently pulling tissue upward, cupping achieves several powerful therapeutic effects at the same time, working with the body's own circulation to release what has become stuck.
-
Promotes Circulation - Draws fresh, oxygenated blood into the treated area while flushing out toxins, stagnant blood, and metabolic waste.
-
Relieves Muscle Tension - Highly effective for loosening tight muscles, easing stiffness, and releasing stubborn knots and trigger points.
-
Facilitates Healing - Breaks up scar tissue and adhesions to improve range of motion and activate the body's natural repair processes.

WHAT TO EXPECT
During and After Your Session
Your therapist will use either a small flame, known as fire cupping, or a manual pump to create the vacuum before placing the cups. You will feel a tight, drawing sensation as each cup is applied, and most clients find this deeply satisfying rather than uncomfortable. Cups are typically left in place for five to fifteen minutes.
The Marks, and What They Mean
A common and expected result of cupping is the appearance of circular discoloration, ranging from light pink to deep red or purple, on the skin where the cups were placed. These are not bruises in the traditional sense.
The marks are a sign of increased blood flow and the release of stagnation from deep within the tissue. They are completely normal and typically fade within three to seven days.
